Two Piece Swimsuit

A two piece swimwear is worn for various reasons. One is to show off a well toned body and another reason is to be able to get a suntan on more than just arms and legs. Two piece swimsuits are also known as “bikinis”, after the famous Bikini Reef.

The two piece swimsuit was first introduced in France to a shocked crowd in 1946. Despite how conservative America was that time, the two piece bathing suits were being sold in the United States only a year after being invented. Even though the modest two piece swimsuit was very modest compared to today, several women were arrested in the 1940s and 1950s for wearing a two piece bathing suit on the beach!

During the sexual revolution of the 1960s, 2 piece swimming suits were no longer an issue. The shocking topless bikini, or the “monokini”, was introduced by designer Rudy Gernreich. It consisted only of a bottom and two thin straps for support. In 1997, Sports Illustrated featured its very first issue to the bikini. Now it’s famously known annually as the “swimsuit” issue.

Ladies’ two piece swimwear has obviously changed very much over the last 60 years. There are now various colors, patterns, and styles. Colors aren’t just limited the basics such as red, green, blue, yellow 2 piece swim suits, and white 2 piece swimsuits, but colors such as magenta, violet, and various shades of the like. Patterns include the basics such as stripes, polka dots, and Hawaiian print. One example of the various styles is athletic two piece bathing suits which are usually seen on professional athletes such as Olympic volleyball players.

Aside from the various colors, patterns, and styles, there are also various name brands and designers that create different kinds of two piece swim wear among other things. Names brands that make 2 piece swim suits include Kenneth Cole two piece swimwear, Gap, Old Navy, Tommy Hilfiger, and American Eagle just to name a few. Unfortunately these particular name brands can run a bit on the expensive side, but there are cheap two piece swimsuits, which is a good alternative for those who are on a budget. Two piece bathing suits can easily be found at such stores as Wal-Mart, Target, and Kmart. They provide affordable clothing that can help anyone on a budget look stylish.

Today 2 piece swimsuits are the most scintillating form of swim wear. After a mere sixty years and revolutionizing the fashion industry, it’s probably safe to say that the bikini is here to stay.
